Bhagavad Gita · Chapter 2 · Verse 23
BG 2.23
Weapons cannot cut it, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it, wind cannot dry it.
nainaṃ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṃ dahati pāvakaḥ | na cainaṃ kledayanty āpo na śoṣayati mārutaḥ ||
Sanskrit / Transliteration
TRANSLATION
Weapons cannot cut the soul, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it, the wind cannot dry it.
EXPLANATION
The four classical elements — earth (weapons), fire, water, wind — cannot touch the atman. This is perhaps the most vivid image in the Gita for the soul's indestructibility. Nothing in the material world can harm what you truly are.
